ACTION Hip:
- Extension
- Lateral/External Rotation

Knee:

- Flexion
Origin Medial part of the ischial tuberosity and sacrotuberous ligament (long head);

Lower half lateral lip of the linea aspera extending to the upper part of the lateral supracondylar line of the femur (short head);

Insertion Head of the fibula
Innervation Tibial and peroneal (fibular) nerves from sciatic nerve

Long head:

- Tibial portion

Short head:

- common peroneal (fibular) branch
Nerve Root Long head:
- S1–S3

Short head:

-L5–S2
Artery deep femoral artery, perforating arteries; long head of biceps femoris: perforating branches from profunda femoris artery
